The Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego was built to welcome visitors arriving by train for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park. So it’s appropriate that public art near the historic depot contains several historical representations of Balboa Park.

The tile artwork, titled The Tracks We Leave Behind, is a visual timeline of San Diego’s history. The beautiful mosaics were created by Betsy K. Schulz in 2008.

I’ve posted more photos of these amazing mosaics on my Cool San Diego Sights website here and here.

Late sunlight on Balboa Park’s trees and towers.

I took these photos yesterday shortly before sunset. I strolled from Balboa Park’s grassy West Mesa to the Cabrillo Bridge, then down El Prado to the reflecting pool. Late sunlight touched trees and dreamlike towers.

A glorious sunrise above Balboa Park.

Please enjoy some beautiful photos of sunrise at Balboa Park. I took them early this morning.

I walked east down El Prado as the sun broke above the horizon, then turned around at the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden and walked back to the west end of the park, where I caught my bus for work.

Late afternoon light brightens the Alcazar Garden.

I got off work early today, so I walked up into Balboa Park with a couple hours of daylight left. I intended to photograph two special somethings for this blog, but unfortunately was unsuccessful. I’ll try again this weekend…

Fortunately, I did get some beautiful photos of late afternoon light beaming into the Alcazar Garden. Here they are…
