I can’t get enough of Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. I love to meander through its colorful courtyard patio.

The place is magical. Dreamlike. A refuge. The cares of the world drop instantly away in Spanish Village.

It’s a place where creativity and joy thrive!

Look what recently appeared at the main entrance to Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park! An amazing glass mosaic sculpture of Frida Kahlo!

The eye-catching piece is titled Frida. It’s a collaboration between two talented artists who show their work in Spanish Village: Yuriy Akopov and Ilya Idelchik.

According to a nearby sign, Frida isĀ available for purchase at the San Diego Sculptors Guild in Spanish Village’s Gallery 36.

If you think this shiny, very colorful piece closely resembles the world-famous sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle, you’re correct! Years ago, while he worked with the company Art Mosaic, Yuriy’s own hands helped to create Niki’s fantastic artwork!

During my Sunday walk through Balboa Park, I noticed some truly amazing paintings near the front door of Studio 18 in Spanish Village. A sign nearby indicated the artist was RD Riccoboni and invited photos. So I thought I’d share some beautiful works of art!

How seniors can display their art in Balboa Park!

A magical painting of trees and flowers exhibited in the Senior Lounge in Balboa Park.
A magical painting of trees and flowers exhibited in the Senior Lounge in Balboa Park.

Yesterday I stepped into the Senior Lounge in Balboa Park and was immediately drawn to a wall covered with colorful art!

I learned that the City of San Diego has a special Art Program for Seniors right here in the park! And that participants can have their artwork publicly displayed in the Senior Lounge! That’s pretty cool!

The Senior Lounge, located in the Case del Prado, is open to anyone age 55 or over. I’m not quite there yet, but the friendly folks welcomed me in anyway! The lounge looks like a great place to kick back, get a cup of coffee, read, have a bite to eat and just relax. And perhaps even meet some new or old friends!

Would you like to have your art exhibited in Balboa Park? I took a photo of the flyer that provides details about the art program. Check it out if this interests you! And if you know someone who might be interested, feel free to share!

Painted wisdom in creative Spanish Village.

The unique wisdom of artists can be absorbed during any walk through Spanish Village. Outside the entrance to Studio 26, simply look down at your feet. Painted tiles contain many quotes concerning creativity.

Time might fade art, but the truths represented are eternal.

I was walking through Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park today when I spied some fun images painted on the patio’s colored tiles, right in front of Studio 16B. This studio is the home of several local artists, and in it you can admire beautiful works of pottery, jewelry, painting and more! I hope you enjoy these few photos!
