The Alcazar Garden, like a dream.

Even when I don’t wander into the Alcazar Garden, I like to peer at it through a series of arches along El Prado. I like to watch visitors moving through the maze-like green hedges that border beautiful plants and beds of flowers.

The way the slanting sunlight touches the garden, the place always seems like a living dream. A magical sunlit dream.

I took these photos yesterday shortly before sunset. I strolled from Balboa Park’s grassy West Mesa to the Cabrillo Bridge, then down El Prado to the reflecting pool. Late sunlight touched trees and dreamlike towers.

During my Sunday walk through Balboa Park, I noticed some truly amazing paintings near the front door of Studio 18 in Spanish Village. A sign nearby indicated the artist was RD Riccoboni and invited photos. So I thought I’d share some beautiful works of art!

A glorious sunrise above Balboa Park.

Please enjoy some beautiful photos of sunrise at Balboa Park. I took them early this morning.

I walked east down El Prado as the sun broke above the horizon, then turned around at the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden and walked back to the west end of the park, where I caught my bus for work.

During my long walk today I noticed painters here, there, and all around Balboa Park working at their easels.

It turns out members of the dynamic San Diego Watercolor Society had converged on the park to capture the surrounding beauty! It appeared to me that they were succeeding!

Many painters had grouped near the park's huge Moreton Bay Fig, with excellent views of the Casa del Prado and the entrance to Spanish Village.

Last Sunday, during my walk through the Palisades area of the park, I circled the Balboa Park Club searching for interesting photos. The earthy, very distinctive Pueblo Revival architecture of this building contrasts beautifully with the green plants that surround it.

Balboa Park’s quiet paradise at Inspiration Point.

Walking through a pleasant arbor in Balboa Park’s little-visited Administrative Courtyard on Inspiration Point.

I had to revisit one of my favorite corners of Balboa Park. I aimed my feet toward Inspiration Point, then walked slowly into the quiet paradise behind the park’s handsome Administration Building.

I blogged about the Balboa Park Administrative Courtyard when I first stumbled upon it several years ago here. And a mysterious fountain at the center of a nearby pool of water here.

So tranquil. So beautiful. I should have brought a book. I did sit down on a bench for a while, and felt the sun on my face. It’s a corner of heaven in Balboa Park that very few visit.
