A very quiet, sunny morning in Balboa Park.

I saw very few people in Balboa Park this morning.

It isn’t often you find a sunny Balboa Park so empty and peaceful. But it was Memorial Day and I started my walk early.

I headed from Cortez Hill up Sixth Avenue, walked east down El Prado all the way to the rose garden, then made my way south along Park Boulevard to the Administrative Courtyard.

I’m sorry to say I didn’t take my camera out right away. My first photograph is by flowers in the Alcazar Garden.

Why was I walking so early in the morning? At eight o’clock there was a special Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Museum. I blogged about it here.

The sun comes out in beautiful Balboa Park.

It has been over two months since I posted photographs to this modest blog, Beautiful Balboa Park. Almost all of my photos, including those of Balboa Park, end up on my main website Cool San Diego Sights.

Finally I have something for here.

My early afternoon walk today was in showery weather along the Embarcadero. But feeling it was too soon to return home, I headed to Balboa Park. And that’s when the sun broke through the clouds.

I looped through the park with no set destination. I did discover a new exhibition at the San Diego History Center, which I’ll blog about later.

I paused for a few moments in Spanish Village to watch the glassblowing. I passed by the Balboa Park Carousel, then made my way to El Prado. Inside the Casa del Prado, the San Diego Geranium Society plant show was about to close.

My feet took me wherever they pleased. Perhaps that’s why this walk felt so good.

A beautiful garden untouched by winter.

I walked through the Balboa Park Administrative Courtyard this February morning. As usual, it was quiet. Few people were about.

The grass was green and many flowers were blooming, as if this special place cannot be touched by winter.

In this little-known paradise it always feels like spring.

Walking through beauty in Palm Canyon.

Balboa Park’s shady Palm Canyon contains several dirt trails. Select one, then descend into beauty.

Sunlight shines mysteriously through translucent green palm fronds and leaves. Magical light touches your path in unexpected places.

Walk slowly. Look up and all around…

A few odd photos in late December.

Here are a few odd photos that I took today as I walked about Balboa Park–and some of these are indeed odd!

December Nights is over and people are busy getting ready for Christmas, so fewer visitors are milling about the park.

We are entering that winter season when Balboa Park is a bit quieter, a bit more peaceful. I’m looking forward to it.

I’ve already posted several blogs over on Cool San Diego Sights, and I’m just about blogged out today, but I wanted to share a few more photos.

I’m leaving out captions. Insert your own!

Shadow magic at Natural History Museum.

I was walking through Balboa Park this evening shortly before sundown, just letting my eyes wander at random, when I noticed all sorts of complex shadows around and upon the San Diego Natural History Museum.

The fantastic shadows and effects of light appeared to me like strange magic. So I took a few photographs…

Poetic words deepen Balboa Park’s beauty.

Time - Becomes meaningless in the face of Creativity

Life’s abundant riches fill Balboa Park.

Walking about, you might happen to encounter a few poetic words. Words that express and deepen the beauty of this very special place . . .

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see - So long lives this and this gives life to thee
